Wulf

Several deep scars run across Wulf's face, and he holds his eyes shut as a matter of habit, a quirk behind his nickname of Beady-Eyes. The fighting at Ketil's Farm costs him half of that closed gaze for good, as Thorgil digs out his right eye with his bare fingers during the struggle.

Sharp-minded and dutiful, Wulf treats his role as Canute's right hand with complete seriousness, shadowing the king through much of what he does. Canute leans on him heavily, prizing the calm, sensible judgment he brings, and Wulf carries out whatever he is told even when the task serves almost no purpose, such as trailing Thorkell through a fight arranged mainly to keep the giant amused. When his planning goes wrong he owns the error plainly, as he does after wrongly assuming the Jomsvikings had killed Ketil despite the king's order to bring the man in alive. His steady counsel and his coaching of Canute on how a ruler should conduct himself in war suggest a long prior record in advisory and military roles.

His post as head thegn and combat tutor rests on genuine skill, both with a blade and in close, unarmed grappling. His standout moment comes during the attempt on Canute's life, when he manages to briefly get the better of Thorgil by driving him to the ground and choking him, though the effort is what leaves him blind in one eye. Against the truly monstrous, however, his limits show. In the Baltic Sea War an annoyed Thorkell seizes him by the throat and hoists him clear off his feet with a single hand, and Wulf can do nothing to break free.
