Summary

With July underway, Class 3-E switches to its lighter summer uniforms, and Taiga Okajima wastes no time gawking at the girls' newly bared skin while Nagisa looks on with unease. Korosensei coolly warns him against distraction, though the tentacled teacher is hiding an adult magazine of his own, a hypocrisy Okajima calls out at once. The whole room, teacher included, freezes when Sosuke Sugaya bares a sprawling design running down his left arm, joking that the limb had been sealed away by the gods. Hinano Kurahashi realizes it is painted on, and Sugaya explains it is henna, a dye that lingers roughly a week once it sets. Karma Akabane notes the art hails from India, a country his parents keep returning from with fresh markings.

Fresh from a stack of books about delinquents, Korosensei is relieved his student is not turning into one and eagerly begs for a design of his own. As Rio Nakamura likens the prepared dye to melted chocolate, Sugaya begins his first stroke, and moments later the class watches in horror as their teacher's face liquefies. Yuma Isogai works out that Sugaya ground up anti-sensei bullets and folded them into the paint, though Hinata Okano points out the target would need to sit still far longer to actually perish. Korosensei recovers, praises the cunning, then dissolves into tears because he had merely wanted something cool drawn on him. A quick apology later, Sugaya starts over with ordinary paint.

Key Events

Before long the entire class sports henna across their arms, so when Irina Jelavic strolls in feeling breezy in her summer wear, she recoils at the sight. Korosensei, patterned across his cap and cheeks, cannot contain his excitement, and he and Sugaya both fix their eyes on Irina as the last blank canvas available. She flares up, slips on a stray pack of paint, cracks her head against the wall, and knocks herself cold. The pair seize the chance to hold a contest on her unconscious body. A flashback fills in Sugaya's past: his compulsive doodling once earned him a delinquent's reputation, and a teacher folded his marked-up exam into quarters before shipping him off to Class E. Sugaya inks an intricate piece down her right arm, while Korosensei answers on the left with a short comic about a cook conning an octopus out of a fresh coat.

The two keep trading turns, layering fresh gags onto Irina and even fitting her with cardboard props and a cheap samurai getup. Sugaya's stylish lettering spells out a crude insult, and Korosensei counters with a giant peach, a moocher, fake glasses, a mustache, and the words 'medium-sized' across her forehead. When Irina finally stirs, she inspects herself in silence, walks out, and returns transformed with real firearms, opening fire on the fleeing class. Tomohito Sugino grabs her from behind, promising the dye will wash off if it never sets, but she rages that her summer debut is ruined all the same.

Notes

Nagisa reasons she would be far less furious had Sugaya acted alone. Sugaya agrees, admitting that the doodles on the backs of his assignments were always dismissed elsewhere, whereas Korosensei not only tolerates them but happily builds on them, recalling a Rembrandt he once added. He concludes that in a room where killing the teacher is the whole point, being unconventional simply reads as normal. As Korosensei calmly offers the still-firing Irina a snack, Tadaomi Karasuma steps in looking annoyed at the racket, opening what the chapter frames as the final eight months of the hunt. Released on April 1, 2013 in issue 18, the chapter carries the Japanese title Ato no Jikan and was not given an anime adaptation.
