Gustav

Neatly combed black hair over dark brown eyes gives Gustav the groomed look of a staff officer. Young, tall, and solidly built, he dresses in the Garrison's standard uniform.

Gustav says little and wastes less. Stern in bearing, he treats fellow soldiers with respect regardless of rank, hearing out the newly graduated Armin Arlert and folding the cadet's thinking into the Garrison's plans. His caution shows in his objection that committing hundreds of troops behind a strategy whose core remains uncertain means marching them toward death, even as he concedes he understands Commander Pixis's reasoning.

Gustav serves as escort and aide to Dot Pixis and is on hand when the commander halts Eren Yeager's execution at Trost. Placed on the team drafting the district's recapture, he probes the risks in Armin's proposal and later delivers the report tallying the soldiers lost in the operation.

During the Wall Rose emergency he accompanies Pixis as the advance scouts report that no breach exists, and passes along the exposure of Bertolt Hoover and Reiner Braun as the Colossus and Armored Titans. At the tribunal deciding Erwin Smith's fate, Anka's fabricated announcement of a breach sends Gustav mobilizing with the Garrison, only for the royal officials present to order every refugee barred from Wall Sheena; he then watches Darius Zackly's forces detain them, the deception that brings down the old regime. Years later, after Zackly's assassination and the defection of Eren's faction, Gustav is still beside Pixis as the commander proposes a temporary surrender to the Yeagerists. He shares a July 20th birthday with Halil.
