Appearance

Julia is a young woman of sixteen with red hair and blue eyes. Through the film she is often seen in Edward Elric's red coat or a belted jacket with a red headband, rifle in hand. Far more athletic than she looks, she can drop from a building through quick, careful acrobatic leaps and handles firearms and the Black Bats' flight gear with ease.

Personality

Kind and fiercely strong-willed, Julia will stop at nothing to see the former glory of her nation restored, and she hungers for the power that might make it possible. Her ambition has firm limits, though: she is repelled by anything cruel or unjust, and the idea of sacrificing human lives to make a Philosopher's Stone appalls her. Above all she loves her brother Ashleigh, wanting only to be reunited with him once the fighting is done, and she raises her hand against him, when it finally comes to that, with the deepest reluctance.

History

Julia and her brother Ashleigh were moved to Creta as children, along with their alchemist parents. One night the family was attacked and the parents killed; Ashleigh was struck down when he went to investigate, and Julia was carried off unconscious. She was taken in by those working to restore the fallen nation of Milos and grew close to Miranda of the Black Bats. Years later, arrested for slipping into Amestris illegally, she is freed during a raid and eventually falls in with Alphonse Elric, who breaks her fall from a cliff. Unknown to her, a man named Atlas has carved off her brother's face to impersonate him and spends the reunion manipulating her, all to reach the alchemy circle her parents had tattooed onto her body.

Her chief gift is healing alchemy, worked through a circle drawn on paper, though it strains her to mend even small wounds. The Black Bats hatch a plan to storm Table City in search of the coveted Sanguine Stone, a Philosopher's Stone, but during the assault Atlas murders Miranda and spills her blood into the machinery that will forge it, then reveals himself and moves to combine the circles cut from her and Ashleigh. The Elric brothers arrive in time to save her, and Edward lends her his coat.

As lava unleashed by the chaos races toward her people, Julia seizes the Sanguine Stone and swallows it, and its power lets her hurl lightning, command water and ice, and heave enormous masses of earth against a flow that not even Alphonse could hold back. Her true brother resurfaces to strike down Atlas, then, having chosen loyalty to Creta, turns on her; she overpowers him even as their matching jewelry shatters, and with the help of the Elrics and Mustang the lava is finally stopped and the people spared. Refusing to let Ashleigh die, she spends the last of the stone to heal him before collapsing and coughing up its remains. She wakes in a hospital, her mended earring beside her, and later meets Ed and Al one final time, now fitted with a prosthetic leg, before they leave a reclaimed Milos behind.
