Summary

Impaled by Mutsuki, Urie asks why he has not been finished off. Mutsuki hesitates, then furiously hurls him from the kagune and beats him down with ease, until Saiko throws herself between them. She insists Mutsuki is family and that she will hold him back, but he savagely rejects the idea, snarling that his family is a wretched father, an awful mother, and a hateful brother, and drives his blade clean through Saiko's midsection.

Wounded, Saiko still asks why he is fighting them. Mutsuki only strikes again, and Urie rises to cover her with his own body. Drained and shaken, Mutsuki halts his attack, saying he will not stop because the choice is already made. Saiko then turns his own resolve against him, asking why, if he is so certain, his face looks so full of pain.

Key Events

Crushed by the question, Mutsuki sinks to his knees as his kagune melts away. He drifts through memories of being seized by Torso, of becoming a Quinx, of his own birth, and confesses he wishes he had simply died. Even so, he admits that life among the Quinx gave him comfort, and he faces the belief that he is someone who ought to be dead. Weeping an apology, he turns his knife toward his own throat. Saiko knocks the blade from his hand and declares that she loves him, and Urie adds that he will stop him as many times as it takes. At this, Mutsuki finally breaks down in tears.
