Drawing its name directly from shima, Japanese for island, this Paramecia lets its eater blend into the surroundings of any island and mold them however they please. Whoever holds it becomes an Island Human, a fighter whose might rises and falls with the ground they stand on. Avalo Pizarro of Blackbeard's crew carries the fruit and uses it to make himself one with the pirate stronghold of Hachinosu.

On making contact with natural rock or built structures such as wooden flooring, the user merges with that environment and then commands it freely. Across a large island the scale grows terrifying, and because most of the world's surface is made of islands, the potential reach is vast. Even cannon fire from a Marine battleship cannot wound or slow the user once they have fused with a big enough mass. They can bring landmarks to life to speak, emote, or sprout limbs that seize and crush, and they feel anyone meddling with the terrain, which turns the power into a surveillance net. The glaring flaw is that the island stands in for the user's body, so serious damage to the merged land rebounds onto their true form. Enemies with enormous strength or potent Armament Haki abuse this by striking the manipulated ground. Control past an island's coastline, such as underwater, has yet to be shown.

Pizarro melds with Hachinosu, animating the skull-shaped rock at its center to speak with the island's inhabitants. Through an itching sensation he picks up on dungeon breakouts and can raise a warning quickly. In battle he thrusts gigantic arms up from the ground and the buildings on it, reaching out to crush ships at sea, and he carries his crew's vessels straight to their base for convenience. When SWORD and Garp arrived to rescue Koby, he called the fruit a new power, a sign he acquired it not long before, most likely through the Blackbeard Pirates' fruit hunting.
