Hiromi Shiota

Hiromi is often called attractive yet severe in the face, and she bears such a close likeness to Nagisa that the resemblance is hard to miss. Her hair is short and dark, colored a deep navy in the anime, which hints that Nagisa's blue locks came from her side.

At first Hiromi comes across as an antagonist to her own son, gripping every part of his life. She insists he keep his hair long and pushes him into girls' clothing he dislikes, and any defiance can set off screaming fits, as when she rages at Korosensei. Her edges soften over time, especially after Nagisa shields her from a hidden assassin, and mother and son gradually reach steadier ground.

Hiromi's own upbringing was rigid; her parents demanded she focus on study and never let her indulge in dressing up. She longed to enter a top university and land a prestigious position, and when both dreams slipped away, she began wishing for a daughter she could shape into the life she never had. A son arrived instead, yet she pressed the same ambitions onto Nagisa, keeping his hair long and at times making him crossdress. By Nagisa's account, it was her domineering, volatile nature that eventually drove his father out of the home.

Her major arc begins when she moves to transfer Nagisa back to the main campus over his objections, then confronts his teacher, unaware that Korosensei is clumsily disguised as Karasuma. When the octopus refuses and calls out her inferiority complex, she storms off, later drugging Nagisa at dinner and hauling him to the mountain to burn the classroom down. A lurking hitman, irritated by their argument, nearly kills them both, but Nagisa defeats the man before her eyes. The next morning she relents, letting him remain with Class 3-E in exchange for help around the house. She resurfaces after the school festival, warming further to how happy the class makes him, and again near the story's climax, finally grasping why her son grew so resolute. When the class graduates, she and Nagisa's father reveal they intend to reconcile, delighting their son.
