A dark beard matches the dark hair on this middle-aged Eldian's head. His clothing runs simple: a white shirt worn beneath a jacket, with a hat completing the look.

Affection sets Finger apart from many parents in Liberio. Pieck's place among the Warriors troubles rather than flatters him, since the Curse of Ymir sharply limits an inheritor's remaining years, and no military honor justifies that cost in his eyes. Even the armband Marley forces onto its Eldians reads differently to him: not a mark of disgrace but a keepsake of everything his daughter surrendered on his behalf.

Years before the story begins, a grave illness nearly kills him. To secure his treatment, Pieck volunteers for the Warrior program and becomes the Cart Titan's inheritor, and the medicine her position provides saves his life. Her success devastates him regardless, since the power condemns her to an early death.

He welcomes Pieck home to Liberio after Marley's victory over the Mid-East Allied Forces. When the Rumbling later reaches the city, he escapes aboard a train to Fort Salta, made possible when Leonhart forces a Marleyan soldier to operate it, and he declines a fellow refugee's suggestion to shed his armband, thinking fondly of Pieck's sacrifice. At Salta the so-called source of all living matter turns him into a Titan; he becomes human again once Mikasa Ackerman slays Eren Yeager.
