Mathias Kramer

A troubled look rarely leaves his face, sitting oddly against features the novels call gentle. His forehead runs a touch broad, and both his hair and his eyes are dark. Over a white blouse he layers a plain vest.

Courtesy comes naturally to Mathias, drilled into him by an upbringing aimed at making him the next head of the Kramer Merchant Association. Children his own age were largely absent from that childhood; Rita Iglehaut is the lone exception. His education stressed consideration toward everyone, laborers included, along with a duty to look after the less fortunate and take their feelings into account.

Rita matters to him, yet he reads the situation without illusions. An heir of his position must eventually marry someone who strengthens the family business, so he treats anything deeper between them as a road with no destination.

Both volumes of Attack on Titan: The Harsh Mistress of the City split their protagonist duties between Mathias and Rita Iglehaut. Jörg Kramer, his father, heads the merchant association he stands to inherit; his mother has died. Fuerth District is his home and commerce his occupation. What ultimately becomes of him goes unrecorded.
