Mrs. Arlert and her husband are both killed by Djel Sannes of the Military Police Brigade as punishment for trying to escape past the Walls. Her son Armin never learns the truth as a child; in the story's early chapters he says Titans killed his mother and father in the failed campaign to retake Wall Maria, despite the balloon attempt taking place before the Walls were ever breached, a discrepancy the series leaves unexplained.
