Squad Klaus

Composed largely of new recruits, Squad Klaus serves under Team Leader Klaus as one of the central units committed to the battle of Shiganshina District. Its assignment there is keeping the expedition's horses alive.

While the veteran soldiers push toward Shiganshina's outer gate, Squad Klaus holds position along the interior face of Wall Maria. Once the Beast Titan appears, Erwin Smith reinforces the team with Squad Dirk and Squad Marlene under orders to shield the horses from Titans. The defenders cut down the incoming Titans until projectiles hurled by the Beast Titan crush most of them, sparing only the greenest recruits. The survivors withdraw toward the Wall with Levi Ackerman, the horses still in their care. Erwin then hands the remnants their final assignment: a mounted charge into certain death, firing signal flares to spoil the Beast Titan's aim while Levi circles around to strike it. The diversion succeeds, and every rider except Floch Forster is killed.

Klaus commands the team until his death in the charge. Its known former members are Marlowe Freudenberg, Sandra, Gordon, and Floch Forster, the sole soldier to survive the final ride; all four eventually die over the course of the war.
