Gabi fakes illness to lure a Garrison guard into her cell, clubs him with a wrapped brick, and flees with Falco. Resting by a river after a night of running, she refuses to shed the armband she believes separates her from the "island devils," and tearfully asks Falco why he boarded the airship with her. Kaya, a local orphan, finds them and brings them home to the Braus farm, where Falco introduces the pair as runaway siblings Ben and Mia. Artur Braus welcomes them without question.

In the interior, Hange faces public agitation over Eren's detention and then confronts Floch and three other Scouts who leaked word of his imprisonment. Floch argues Eren is a savior who should be freed; Hange concedes he could be right but confines the four for insubordination anyway. From her cell, Louise tells a visiting Mikasa that watching her kill a Titan in Trost inspired her enlistment, and hints that freeing Eren should matter to her too, drawing only a cold dismissal and, afterward, a headache laced with old memories. Pyxis, meanwhile, questions Yelena about a railway celebration ten months earlier when Floch escorted her, suspecting that was when the conspiracy took root.

Kaya reveals she has known all along that her guests are Marleyan and leads them to her ruined village, where she listened to a Titan eat her mother four years ago. She asks what her mother did to deserve it. Gabi's recitation of inherited Eldian sin collapses against the simple fact that Kaya's mother never left the island, and it is Falco who answers honestly: she was a casualty of Marley's own reconnaissance operation. He apologizes, and Kaya offers to bring them to a restaurant staffed by a Marleyan, hoping it can lead them home. In Marley, the military discovers only Zeke's arms and legs among the Beast Titan's remains and realizes he defected. With a global offensive six months out, Reiner argues Zeke expects them to wait, so Marley must strike Paradis by surprise.

Gabi and Falco break out of their cell and are taken in by the Braus family under assumed names, unaware at first that Kaya knows exactly what they are.

Hange jails Floch and three fellow Scouts for leaking Eren's imprisonment, while Louise's cell-side appeal to Mikasa exposes how far Jaegerist sympathy has spread through the ranks.

Kiyomi Azumabito arrives at the port with the world's first Iceburst Stone powered flying boat, and Pyxis traces the roots of the Eren-Yelena connection to the Trost railway celebration.

At her ruined village, Kaya rejects Gabi's doctrine of ancestral guilt; Falco admits her mother died as collateral of Marley's Paradis operation and apologizes for it.

Marleyan command confirms Zeke faked his death and defected, and Reiner persuades them that only an immediate surprise attack can preempt his defensive planning.
