Summary

A month after the war with the Mid-East Allied Forces, Reiner briefs Marleyan officers on possible approaches to invading Paradis Island, only for the meeting to be cut short. Watching the candidates run drills outside, the Warriors discuss the Eldians' uncertain future. Falco overtakes Gabi in training, and while Colt doubts his little brother can climb above her before the Armored Titan is assigned, Galliard points out how vague the selection criteria are. Afterward, Gabi vents about Falco's sudden drive, and he blurts out that he is competing for her sake before fleeing in embarrassment.

Near the stage being raised for the Tybur family's declaration, Willy congratulates Magath on his coming promotion to general, and the two trade veiled words about a "house" that needs demolition and the rats it may contain. At the veterans' hospital, the man called Kruger receives a visit from an elderly physician named Yeager, who recounts how Falco's uncle died as an Eldian Restorationist and warns Kruger to stop using the boy as a courier before the Grice family draws suspicion again. Pressed about his own regrets, the old man breaks down over the fates of his son Grisha and daughter Faye and is led away screaming.

At a reception on the festival's eve, the candidates wait on foreign ambassadors; Udo nearly causes an incident by spilling wine on the Hizuru envoy Kiyomi Azumabito, who quietly covers for him. Willy then addresses the room, promising to announce his answer to the Titan scourge the following night. The candidates enjoy the festival the next day, Reiner emptying his wallet feeding them. As the ambassadors gather for Willy's speech, Falco pulls Reiner down into a basement to meet Kruger. Reiner instantly knows the face: Eren Yeager, who remarks that four years have passed and that he is glad Reiner made it home.

Key Events

Falco admits his push to outrank Gabi is meant to protect her from inheriting the Armored Titan. Willy Tybur and Magath speak in coded terms about Marley's leadership and the possibility of infiltrators, and Willy publicly commits to unveiling his solution to the Titan problem at the festival.

Grisha Yeager's father appears at the hospital and unknowingly tells his own disguised grandson about the Restorationists' fate, the reason the Grice brothers became Warrior candidates, and his lasting guilt over Grisha and Faye.

On the night of Willy's address, Falco unwittingly delivers Reiner to a basement meeting where Kruger reveals himself as Eren Yeager, ending their four-year separation moments before the festival's climax.

Notes

The title comes from Eren's greeting to Reiner, a pointed echo of their history: the reunion takes place in a basement, mirroring the Yeager basement that Reiner's betrayal once made the story's central goal. The old physician's breakdown quietly confirms that Eren's grandfather still lives in Liberio, unaware he is speaking to his grandson.

This chapter closes volume 24, released October 7, 2017 in Japan and a day earlier in the United States. It is adapted in the anime episode "From One Hand to Another" and bridges the chapters "From One Hand to Another" and "Guilty Shadow".
