Steam rises off the shattered harbor as Armin climbs out of the Colossus Titan's nape, struck by the thought that Bertolt looked upon this same devastation nine years earlier when Wall Maria fell. Nearby, Jean lines up a Thunder Spear to finish the collapsed Cart Titan, but a burst of steam from the wound throws off his shot, leaving him unsure whether he flinched or truly missed. A gravely hurt Pieck tumbles from the carcass into Falco's arms; Magath and his soldiers drive back the swooping Survey Corps long enough for Gabi and Falco to carry her away.

Enraged by the fates of Zeke and Pieck, Galliard hurls the Jaw Titan at Eren, shredding one of the Attack Titan's eyes and even scoring the crystal encasing Lara Tybur, a hardness nothing else has scratched. Mikasa remarks that this Jaw fights nothing like Ymir's did. Sheltering indoors, Falco frets that Pieck's wounds outpace her healing, and Gabi bristles when he suggests leaving the buried Reiner undisturbed, shooting back that Eren's hands carry the deaths of Udo, Zofia, and so many others.

Then the airship appears over Liberio, piloted by Onyankopon under Hange's command, tracing the flare-lit path Armin devised for a single-pass, low-altitude extraction. Hange jokes that Erwin's ghost must have possessed Armin to produce something this reckless; Armin only wishes the ghost would lend them strength. Galliard leaps to intercept the ship and lands in Mikasa's ambush, her blades severing his legs mid-jump. Eren seizes the fallen Jaw, rips its arms off, wedges Tybur's crystal between its teeth, and forces the jaws shut like a nutcracker, drinking the fluids of the woman inside to inherit the War Hammer Titan. As he starts on the Jaw's nape, Gabi and Falco's screams reach the rubble where Reiner lies, begging to die in peace. He surfaces anyway, an Armored Titan with no armor to give, absorbs Eren's knockdown punch, and hauls Galliard out of reach. Eren emerges, declares the fight finished, and departs with Mikasa toward the ship, bidding Reiner farewell as Gabi snatches a rifle and sprints after them swearing to kill him.

Armin surveys the harbor destruction from the Colossus Titan and recognizes it as the mirror of what Bertolt saw nine years before.

Pieck survives the Cart Titan's fall, and Magath's covering fire lets Gabi and Falco evacuate her.

Hange's airship reaches Liberio along Armin's flare-marked route to extract the raiders.

Mikasa cripples Galliard mid-leap, and Eren uses the Jaw Titan's bite to crush Lara Tybur's crystal, inheriting the War Hammer Titan.

Reiner rises armorless to save Galliard from being eaten, and Gabi takes up a rifle to pursue the departing Survey Corps.

Chapter 104 overall and second in volume 26, released in Japan on April 9, 2018 with the English simulpub a day prior, during the Marley arc. Its events span the anime episodes Assault and Assassin's Bullet.

Hajime Isayama has called the Attack Titan's clash with the Jaw his favorite scene in the whole series. The chapter also contains a famously ambiguous line: the Japanese grammar of Eren's closing dialogue leaves unclear whether he or Reiner is the one drained of strength and who cannot kill whom, which Kodansha rendered as Reiner being unable to kill them in his current state.
