The exhausted survivors of Utgard gather atop Wall Rose. Historia begs Hange to judge Ymir by her motives rather than by her newly revealed Titan power, and Hange agrees, addressing the girl by her real name now that her Reiss lineage is known. Nearby, talk of the Warriors' hometown prompts Bertolt to blurt to Reiner that the time to go home has come. Hannes then delivers a report that unsettles everyone: no breach exists anywhere in Wall Rose, no abnormality at Trost or Krolva, and not one Titan encountered during the entire search. Hange cancels the sealing operation and orders a withdrawal to Trost for standby.

Reiner draws Eren aside and, in a flat conversational tone, admits that he and Bertolt broke the Wall five years ago, names himself the Armored Titan and his companion the Colossus, and offers a bargain: if Eren comes with them, no further attacks. Eren rejects it as exhaustion talking, and Bertolt, rattled by the timing, plays along. The scene cuts back several hours to Ehrmich District, where Hange's reading of Annie's background file placed her origin alongside Reiner's and Bertolt's. Armin's account tied it together: during the Female Titan's attack he told Reiner his estimate of Eren's position, and Annie's course change afterward suggested Reiner carved a message into her palm while trapped in her grip.

On the Wall, Reiner's composure cracks. Believing years among "idiots" softened him into forgetting his mission, he strips the cast from his broken arm and lets it visibly regenerate, resolving to see his duty as a Warrior through whatever the cost. Mikasa reacts faster than anyone, shearing off Reiner's hand and slashing at Bertolt's neck in a bid to kill them both mid-sentence, screaming for Eren to run. It is not enough. The pair transform exactly as Reiner described, the Armored Titan seizing Eren while the half-formed Colossus scoops up the unconscious Ymir. As memories of three years of friendship curdle into betrayal, Eren bites down on his thumb and meets the Armored Titan as a Titan himself.

Hannes reports Wall Rose completely intact with no Titans found, and the plugging operation is called off.

Hange learns Historia's true identity as a Reiss and begins using her real name.

Reiner admits the truth to Eren: the Armored Titan is his, the Colossus belongs to Bertolt, and together they broke the Wall five years earlier.

A flashback to Ehrmich shows the Corps connecting Annie, Reiner, and Bertolt through their shared hometown and Armin's deductions about the Female Titan's pursuit.

Mikasa maims both Warriors trying to kill them; they transform, capture Eren and Ymir, and Eren transforms to battle the Armored Titan.

This chapter ends volume 10 as its fourth entry, number 42 overall, released in Japan on February 9, 2013 and in English on December 31, 2013, within the Clash of the Titans arc. The anime adapted it under the matching title Warrior.

Hajime Isayama places it second among his favorite chapters across the entire manga. The understated delivery of Reiner's confession, staged as casual conversation atop the Wall rather than a dramatic unmasking, is one of the manga's most cited storytelling choices.
