Puck's Relatives

The four elves look nearly alike and are told apart chiefly by the spikes of their hair. Counting upward one spike at a time, Pick carries two, followed in order by Pook, Peck, and Poke. Like Puck, they slip into the rounded, cartoonish chestnut shape typical of piskies when the mood turns comic.

They share Puck's whimsical, easygoing, and mischievous streak, quick to launch into overblown, melodramatic displays. Poke stands out as the airheaded one of the bunch, so oblivious that by his own confession he never even registered that Puck had gone missing from Elfhelm until the day he came back.

The four are on hand when the Black Swordsman Party arrives in Elfhelm, casually welcoming Puck back as though no time had passed. Sizing up Guts, they note his grim, out-of-place aura, then greet him by mimicking his stern face and darting in front of him, while Poke keeps to his usual daze. When Guts reaches the audience with the Flower Storm Monarch, Pick and Pook carry a robed and crowned Puck toward the throne in a mock coup, which is swiftly quashed and lands Puck and Magnifico a day of chores helping the brownies.

They turn up again at that night's banquet as the pair serve out their punishment, later aid Isidro in pranking Elfhelm's young girl mages before an ivy-summoning Schierke has them comically arrested, and are seen riding golems while playing with the newly arrived Moonlight Boy, whom neither they nor the nearby sprites sense any malice in. When Griffith manifests and the true owners of the island begin to rise, the four withdraw into a deeper layer of the Astral World and vanish.
