Rita

Rita is a young woman with brown hair and blue eyes who earns her living as a traveling street performer. She appears exclusively in the video game continuity, introduced amid her troupe on the road.

Spirited, warm, and brave, Rita keeps her promises and takes genuine pride in her artistic talents. That courage and loyalty carry her through the horrors she witnesses alongside Guts without breaking her resolve.

Rita's troupe was bound for the city under Balzac's rule when bandits set upon them, and Guts drove the attackers off just as they eyed the newly arrived Casca. Grateful, Rita introduced herself and hoped Guts would attend her show, which he agreed to after Puck badgered him. During the performance her fellow performer Job was assaulted by villagers who recognized his transformation into a Mandragora, and when Guts killed Job, a livid Rita was hauled off with the group to Balzac's fortress and imprisoned for her ties to him.

She was spared execution when Dunteth and his men stormed the castle, and she stayed close to Guts until reaching the rebel base, remaining with Casca while Guts left for the Mandragora-stricken village. Balzac's forces under Gyove then butchered the rebels and seized Casca, but Rita escaped and reached Guts to warn him during his fight with Eriza. She saw Eriza take her own life and, pulled by causality, retrieved a strange stone that fell from the nun; the death shattered the Mandragora Heart and restored the townsfolk, who blamed Guts despite Rita's efforts to clear him. She returned with him to Balzac's fortress and helped rescue Casca, unwittingly enabling the dying Balzac's rebirth as an apostle. After Guts destroyed Balzac for good, Rita saw the group off, promising never to forget what they had done for her.
