Theuene

Depicted with light brown hair in the illustrations, Theuene numbers among the youthful witches born to the enchanted isle of Skellig.

Set beside her livelier fellow witches, Theuene comes across as a hushed, retiring girl. Whenever something unexpected unfolds, she tends to respond with plain startlement rather than any words of her own.

Theuene turns up first in the company of Kukka and Iony, remarking that outsiders have returned to the island. When Molda recklessly hurls a blazing wicker man at Guts and his group, she backs Kukka's rebuke, and after Gedfring quenches the flames with a downpour she gives her name to Schierke along with the other girls. She travels with the party through the mages' village and into Gedfring's house, where she listens to their account, marvels that they survived, and puzzles over Guts' beherit.

Once Casca is mended by the Corridor of Dreams rite, Theuene sits in on Gedfring's lesson. She watches Farnese perform the Formation of the Four and is stunned that the Vandimion noblewoman raises its four spirit-kings without tracing a single magic circle, reacting just as strongly when Schierke summons a shade of darkness close by. She wishes the young sorceress well as Schierke sets about mastering broom-flight, and she becomes another mark for Isidro's mischief. When ruin comes to Skellig, Theuene evacuates with the rest of its magic-workers; she surfaces again during the Kushan raid on the Seahorse, waits for Schierke's glowing form to rejoin her body, and is later glimpsed among the Kushan capital's streets just as Qliphoth emerges.
