Chigiri Shijima

Chigiri wore the standard captain's haori layered over a shihakushō. His skin was pale and his gray hair framed his face in several long bangs on both sides, while the rest was gathered into a ponytail that trailed all the way down to his lower back.

Yhwach remembered him as a ruthless, cold-blooded slaughterer. That reputation showed itself when the Lichtreich first stormed Soul Society and Chigiri cut down their Quincy soldiers without mercy.

Chigiri received his appointment as the inaugural captain of the Fourth Division over a thousand years ago. When the Lichtreich launched their invasion, he threw himself into the defense, beheading numerous enemy troops with his sword and helping to break the Quincy army. As one of the first captains, ranked among the strongest ever to hold the office, he wielded enormous spiritual power and considerable skill in swordsmanship, though he relied only on his sealed blade in that battle. Once peace returned he stepped back into a quieter life, having found things he wished to protect. His Zanpakutō, a katana with a purple hilt, a rectangular silver guard, and a matching purple sheath, was never seen released. The captaincy would in time pass to Retsu Unohana.
