Haineko (Zanpakutō spirit)

Her human shape is that of a shapely woman with olive skin, turquoise eyes, and a pronounced rear. Maroon hair falls to her chin, pinched into a pair of feline ears up top and hanging in long strands around her face. Pink fur wraps much of her body, covering her forearms, her feet, one leg, her hips, and most of her torso, while a patch of white fluffs at her neck and a matching band circles a thigh. A long pink tail trails behind her, and her fingers taper into claws.

While under Muramasa's spell she is restless and quick to grumble, forever spritzing herself with perfume and utterly certain of her own allure. Crude and provocative, she prizes curves and cleavage above all and cannot fathom why a man would flee from her. She feuds without end against Tobiume, the two brawling over beauty and over Hyōrinmaru's attention, and she treats Rangiku with open scorn, branding her an old hag she was glad to abandon. Once the brainwashing lifts she softens considerably, growing kind toward Rangiku and merciful toward beaten foes, and she even falls for the Tōjū Narunosuke before being forced to end his life.

During the Zanpakutō uprising she deserts Rangiku on Sōkyoku Hill and takes up Muramasa's cause, teaming with Tobiume to hunt Ichigo and clashing with Rangiku and Momo, who eventually subdue the pair. She later stalls Yoruichi, learns the truth behind Muramasa's aims, and joins the defense of Karakura Town, lending her power to seal the Garganta before slipping back into Rangiku's sword once Muramasa is beaten.

In the follow-up Tōjū affair she crosses into the human world and finds the wounded Narunosuke, hiding and nursing him even though she is meant to destroy his kind. When he finally warps into a Tōjū beyond saving, she cradles him one last time and kills him herself, grief-stricken. After the last renegade blade, Kirikaze, is put down, the energy sustaining the materialized spirits runs dry and Haineko settles into her Zanpakutō for good. In combat she is a skilled swordswoman and brawler who commands a cloud of ash released by the order Growl.
