Appearance

Lavender-eyed and pale, Askin cuts a tall, lean figure, his black hair slicked back to the neck save for a single strand that trails down past his mouth. High cheekbones, thick crooked brows, and full lips define his face. His Sternritter outfit centers on a ribbed light-gray V-neck collar worn over a white long-sleeved shirt fastened with a gray disc brooch, while a stack of colored bracers rides above his left wrist, one stamped with a Quincy Zeichen that summons his Heilig Bogen. Loose white harem trousers with the same ribbing tuck into black, pointed-toe boots.

His outer layer shifts with rank and circumstance. Before joining the Schutzstaffel he wore the standard white Wandenreich cloak marked with the empire's crest; escorted up to the Soul King Palace among Yhwach's guards, he traded it for a hooded version bearing a large red Hagal rune. During the fighting on Wahrwelt he abandoned the cloak altogether, and his shirt was eventually seared away, leaving little but the collar across his chest.

Personality

Askin is an oddball with a relaxed, unhurried air. Rather than throw himself into a fight he tends to stall, hanging back to study his opponents while trading jokes or even setting out a picnic mid-battle, once watching a fellow Sternritter's duel through binoculars. A thermos of café au lait travels with him at all times. He stays casual yet courteous toward friend and foe alike, cheerfully offering his name to enemies and making small talk, though his fellow Quincy address him only as Nakk Le Vaar.

Beneath the mildness runs a sarcastic, occasionally condescending streak, and he is talkative to a fault, given to rambling monologues about himself, his opponents' fatal errors, or the survivability he privately calls shameful. Because he wants to seem perpetually composed, he shuns aggressive-sounding language, which he claims exposes a lack of control. His usual tactic is to feign the part of a spineless, useless subordinate. Even so, his calm can crack: Yhwach's monstrous form after absorbing the Soul King rattled him, and he panicked when the emperor's power threatened to tear the Soul King Palace apart.

Abilities

Even among the Sternritter, whose reiryoku rivals a captain's, Askin's strength stands out, which is why Yhwach folded him into the Schutzstaffel. He pressed the Royal Guard's Ōetsu Nimaiya hard enough to force the man to call for help, and after the Auswählen empowered him he downed Tenjirō Kirinji and later held his own two-on-one against Yoruichi Shihōin and her younger brother Yūshirō. As a Quincy he fights by shaping gathered reishi into weapons, works faster in reishi-rich places like Soul Society and Hueco Mundo, and moves with expert Hirenkyaku speed. He is also remarkably durable and hard to kill, weathering throat wounds, point-blank lightning, and even the loss of his heart while still able to speak.

His schrift, The Deathdealing, grants command over lethal doses. By taking a substance into his body he can gauge the exact amount needed to kill, then adjust it, dropping the lethal threshold so low that harmless or even vital things, blood, reishi, oxygen, turn deadly to anyone nearby. He can leak a purple, poisonous miasma, hurl it as projectiles, or blanket a battlefield with it. His Gift Ball packs the effect into a sphere potent enough to fell Grimmjow Jaegerjaquez in an instant, and he can blend substances into a stronger hybrid version.

Alongside his Heilig Bogen and the Heilig Pfeil he fires from bow or fingertip, Askin can enter his Quincy: Vollständig, Hasshein, meaning 'God's Poison Taster,' gaining flight, molecular-chain wings, and a star-shaped halo. In this state his poison escalates: the enormous Gift Ball Deluxe engulfs and slowly kills everything within, a Gift Bereich barrier seals the space shut, and the Gift Ring focuses all of The Deathdealing's power into a single piercing point for an instant kill. Despite that arsenal, he was ultimately defeated by Yoruichi and finished off by Kisuke Urahara.
