Homura

Homura wears her spiked blonde hair with roots that flush bright pink, above vivid green eyes. Her outfit is a short, frayed pale-pink kimono with a turned-down collar in a deeper pink, cinched at the waist with a yellow cloth, and like her brother Shizuku she goes barefoot.

On the surface Homura reads as bright, bubbly, and full of energy, but underneath she is stubborn, self-absorbed, and single-minded, warm only toward Rukia and Shizuku and cold or hostile to everyone else. A hundred years of torment in Hueco Mundo left her naive, easily misguided, and prone to rash, irrational choices. A cruel encounter in her past seeded a deep loathing of Shinigami, whom she accuses of stripping everything away from the souls they claim to guard. She fears nothing, not even death, and clings to Rukia so fiercely that she is willing to merge with her even though it would destroy her.

Homura and Shizuku were children of the 78th Rukongai district of Inuzuri, gifted with a rare power to teleport, and for a time Rukia looked after them. A Shinigami possessed by a memory-eating parasitic Hollow attacked them, and when Rukia rushed to their aid the two siblings sacrificed themselves by drawing the Hollow into their own bodies, though not before it stripped away Rukia's memories of them. Cast into Hueco Mundo, they spent a century forcing the creature into submission.

A hundred years on they return to Soul Society to collect the names Rukia had once promised them. Shizuku's scythe erases her memory and, through it, everyone else's recollection of her, sparing only Ichigo because of the bond formed when Rukia lent him her powers. Their attempt to keep Rukia to themselves unravels when Homura lets slip a warning against ever going back to Shinigami life, and Rukia starts piecing it together. Desperate, the siblings fuse with her into a Hollowfied Dark Rukia and battle Ichigo, who frees her by pouring his own Shinigami power into her and snuffing out the Hollow inside her. In her closing moments Homura accepts the name Rukia gives her and dies at peace.
