Inose

Inose stands out among the 3rd Division for his bulk, taller and heavier-set than most of those around him. Dark hair reaches well down his back, gathered at the nape with a red cord, and his broad features carry thick lips and small, shadowed eyes. Like his comrades, he wears the black robes standard to the Shinigami.

Suspicion is Inose's first response to the news that an outsider with no ties to the Gotei 13 will take over his division, and he is bold enough to voice that objection to the man's face. Beneath the defiance runs a genuine wish to see his squad respected, and once fresh leadership fires up that ambition, his eagerness burns hot enough to push him into ignoring a direct order.

Inose spends much of Amagai's tenure being gradually won over. He starts out openly doubting the new captain and grumbling that the 3rd Division managed fine without one, only to be disarmed when Amagai meets the squad's distrust with real understanding. During a crisis in the Dangai, Makoto Kibune throws himself in front of a Menos Grande's Cero to save him, and Amagai's arrival to protect them all leaves Inose in awe. Inventive training drills raise his regard for both men further, and he even muses aloud that Kibune might make a fine lieutenant. That growing loyalty later backfires. Certain the division is ready to shine, Inose sides with Kibune over Izuru Kira and joins a reckless sortie that proves to be one of Yamamoto's staged tests. When Kibune is finally exposed as a traitor and turns his Zanpakutō, Reppū, on the squad, Inose and the others are pinned down until Izuru cuts him down, and they rush to their lieutenant's side as he collapses. As a trained Shinigami, Inose handles a blade well enough to fell a Menos and follows an officer's footwork drills with sharp teamwork, though his own Zanpakutō is never released on screen.
