Personality

By Tōsen's account, Kakyō always chose the route that spilled the least blood, a guiding idea he would later make his own. What she wanted most was to earn a place among the Shinigami and turn that strength toward keeping the world at peace.

History

One evening she sat beside the sightless Tōsen and described the stars overhead, confiding that the night sky was her favorite because it mirrored the world: scattered pinpricks of light that the clouds kept trying to smother. She spoke of wanting to sweep those clouds aside so no glow stayed hidden, and Tōsen simply told her that was good. Later she surprised him with news that she was to marry a Shinigami and would join their ranks herself, her acceptance from the Shin'ō Academy already in hand. Telling him he was the first she wished to tell, she asked only that he stay exactly as he was while she returned now and then with her stories.

Not long after, her husband killed her because she had rebuked him for slaying a comrade over a trivial quarrel. When Central 46 declined to punish him, the ruling left Tōsen enraged. Years afterward, in the middle of his duel with Kenpachi Zaraki, Tōsen would call back those final moments with her and the vow of justice he had sworn at her grave.
