Rikichi Yuki

Character

Rikichi Yuki is a rank-and-file member of the Gotei 13's sixth company whose whole reason for enlisting was his idol, lieutenant Renji Abarai. His devotion runs so deep that he inked a tattoo above his eye in tribute and once sprang a healer from a cell to save his hero's life.

Appearance

A young Soul Reaper of ordinary height, Rikichi has black hair parted to one side that flares out at the ends, along with grey eyes. Above his left eye sits a tattoo he chose out of admiration for Renji Abarai, and a trio of RCA cables are knotted into his hair on that same side of his head. Over the standard uniform he wears a slim cord that fastens the supply pack he carries on his back.

Personality

Nearly everything about Rikichi traces back to his hero worship of Renji, the sole reason he joined the sixth company in the first place. That loyalty knows few limits, and it drove him to break Hanatarō Yamada out of confinement simply so the medic could tend to Renji's wounds.

History

Rikichi first turns up at the sixth company barracks fumbling to control a hell butterfly when Renji arrives to look in on the prisoner Rukia Kuchiki, earning a kick to the head and a scolding for his clumsiness. After Renji is defeated by Ichigo Kurosaki and later flees his own cell, Rikichi is among those ordered to recapture him and is the only pursuer left unharmed, baffled that his lieutenant would strike down his own comrades. Once Renji falls to his captain Byakuya Kuchiki's Bankai while trying to halt Rukia's execution, Rikichi frees Hanatarō to heal him and urges Renji to walk his own path and press on to rescue Rukia. His sword looks like a plain katana with a squared guard, though its released forms are never shown. In a later story set after the Quincy war he rises to Third Seat and introduces his younger sibling Ryūnosuke Yuki to Renji and Rukia.
