Shinta Seko

Shinta is a young male Shinigami whose long black hair is worn in a deliberately messy style, swept back to bare his ears while a clump of bangs falls down the middle of his face. Large brown eyes and the ordinary Shinigami uniform round out his look.

Little of his character is drawn out beyond a modest, dutiful streak. He takes his patrol work seriously and thinks nothing of going unrecognized by his own lieutenant, cheerfully accepting that a raw recruit would hardly be a familiar face.

This material belongs to an anime-exclusive arc and falls outside the canon story. Out on a night patrol, Shinta chases a large, unsettling shadow until it slips into a disused execution pit, then sends an emergency Jigokuchō to Third Division headquarters and waits. Makoto Kibune receives the message in Izuru Kira's office, and the two officers set out. Shinta meets them at the pit and explains the shadow's disappearance; Izuru does not recognize him, which the recruit shrugs off.

As Izuru steps toward the edge to describe the hole, the ground gives way and drops all three inside. Unable to keep his footing the way the others can, Shinta falls hard, and Izuru catches him with Shunpo, only for a loose rock to strike his shoulder and force him to drop the now-unconscious boy. Below, captive Hollows break loose, and one starts drawing the limp Shinta into its body. Izuru moves to intervene, but Kibune cuts the Hollow first, releasing his Zanpakutō Reppū and then ignoring the escaping Hollows to strike the one fused with Shinta. Izuru blocks the blow and demands an explanation; Kibune coldly says he meant to finish the job, calling Shinta unworthy of a Shinigami's rank for letting himself be captured, and jabs that such softness is why Izuru failed to stop Gin Ichimaru's defection.

Their clashing Reiatsu detonates, wiping out the Hollows and freeing the recruit. Captain Shūsuke Amagai then arrives to pull them all from the pit, and Shinta is rushed to the Fourth Division infirmary, where Aida warns that his grave injuries leave his survival in doubt.
