Shiyo

Shiyo dresses in a bright yellow kimono with a matching headband, the band trimmed with vivid green leaves that echo the green of her eyes. A green sash wraps around her waist to finish the outfit.

A touch scatterbrained, Shiyo has a knack for bungling even the simplest chores, as when a feeding task nearly left Ganju's boar Bonnie choking to death. Her palate invites comparison to Orihime Inoue's unusual tastes, and she takes a liking to the way Jinta Hanakari dresses.

Shiyo enters the story when Fujimaru and Matsuri Kudō, back in the Human World after clashing with the Arrancar Arturo Plateado, watch Ichigo, aided by the showman Don Kanonji, rescue her from a Menos Grande in the middle of Karakura Town. Brought first to the Urahara Shop and then to Soul Society, she boards for a time at Kūkaku Shiba's home alongside Ganju. Later she slips into a daze and finds herself pulled toward a battle where the Arrancar have brought a huge creature; crying out the name Seigen, she calms the beast, and the enemy confirms it to be the transformed Seigen Suzunami. She collapses, wakes in the Fourth Division with no memory of the episode, and Mayuri Kurotsuchi reveals that she once lived in the Wandering Spirit World and that the soul of Konoka Suzunami inhabits her because Shiyo has none of her own.

After she heals a wounded twin with startling speed, Mayuri has Kisuke Urahara craft a special Gigai so she can safely wield the Shisuikyō, or Burning Water Mirror, and she trains with Kon. When Arrancar and Hollows storm the Seireitei and Gin Ichimaru and Kaname Tōsen draw off the defenders, Shiyo uses the mirror to siphon enough of Arturo's Reiatsu for the twins to defeat him, only for Aizen to seize the Shisuikyō and vanish. Learning that Aizen now controls the Spirit Cycle, the twins set out for Hueco Mundo, and Shiyo insists on joining as the only one able to command the mirror.

In the fighting there Konoka takes over her body, the mirror runs wild, and after Seigen gorges on Gillians to become a beast fused with it, the twins bring him down so that Shiyo and Konoka can free him. The tale closes with Shiyo, Fujimaru, and Matsuri sharing a life together in the Human World. Her hidden occupant grants her potent healing, including the Keikatsu spell, and she proves able to cast offensive Kidō such as Sōren Sōkatsui and Kurohitsugi.
