Break the Mirror's Boundary! Ichigo's Captivity

Gyōkaku Kumoi arms the assassin Hanza Nukui with a Bakkōtō and dispatches him to the Human World to kill Rurichiyo and anyone standing in the way. In Karakura Town, Ichigo senses the approaching assassins and splits the group up, leaving Rukia and Orihime to guard Rurichiyo while he investigates with Sado and Uryū. Back in Soul Society, Kumoi pushes to install Shū Kannogi as head of the Kasumiōji Clan, meeting resistance from members who insist the family is always led by a woman.

Confronting Hanza, Ichigo mistakes the Bakkōtō for a Zanpakutō and demands answers that his opponent refuses to give. As the weapon feeds on spirit energy and grows stronger, it engulfs Ichigo and imprisons his mind inside a paralyzing mirror dimension. His friends, badly outnumbered, struggle against the remaining assassins.

Ichigo slowly resists the Bakkōtō's hold, and Yoruichi arrives to save him just before Hanza can capitalize. With his subordinates defeated, Hanza accepts his loss and withdraws. In Soul Society, the clan members who opposed Kumoi have vanished, and he triumphantly names Shū the eighteenth family head, a development that leaves the boy uneasy.

Kumoi gives Hanza a Bakkōtō and orders Rurichiyo's assassination. Ichigo is trapped inside the mirror dimension of Hanza's Bakkōtō, Saiga. Yoruichi rescues Ichigo and forces Hanza to retreat. Kumoi's opponents within the Kasumiōji Clan disappear, and Shū Kannogi is named the new family head.

This anime-only episode of the New Captain Shūsuke Amagai arc adapts no manga chapter and concludes the battle against the Kasumiōji assassins. Featured abilities include Ichigo's Zangetsu, Sado's Brazo Derecha de Gigante, Orihime's Shun Shun Rikka, Yoruichi's Shunkō, and Hanza's Bakkōtō, Saiga. An Arrancar Encyclopedia skit has Szayelaporro explain the Fracción before offering his own to a disinterested Gin.
