EVERYTHING BUT THE RAIN “June Truth”

Twenty years earlier, Captain Isshin Shiba reports the strange Hollow encounter to Yamamoto, deliberately omitting Masaki Kurosaki, and later resolves to return to the Human World to thank her properly. Masaki, meanwhile, begins feeling a creeping darkness spread from the wound White inflicted, bumping into a startled Kisuke Urahara who senses something wrong. Back at the Ishida estate, Izumi Ishida berates Masaki for saving a Shinigami, and Kanae Katagiri warns Ryūken that the untreated wound could taint the bloodline. Masaki then collapses as a Hollow hole opens in her chest, and Ryūken flees with her using Hirenkyaku, saved from a Hollow by Isshin's blade.

Urahara offers the two men a choice. He explains that Masaki is undergoing Hollowfication and can never revert, but reveals a way to counter it: she needs a lasting hybrid force at her side. Since Masaki is a Quincy-Hollow hybrid, she requires a Shinigami-Human counterpart. Isshin agrees to enter a special Gigai that will make him such a hybrid, bind his soul to Masaki's for the rest of her life and her descendants', and cost him his Shinigami powers. Within her subconscious, Isshin blocks the devouring Hollow and blasts it apart with a fiery Getsuga Tenshō, and the bonding succeeds.

In the present, Isshin stands before Ichigo Kurosaki and finishes the tale. He explains that Masaki was never meant to die that day: her Echt Quincy Blut Vene should have shielded her from Grand Fisher, but it suddenly switched off. The cause was Auswählen, Yhwach's selection process that strips impure Quincy of their power. Isshin names Yhwach not merely the Quincy king but their progenitor, and Ichigo, resolve restored, thanks him and departs with his Substitute Shinigami Badge, returned by Ikumi Unagiya.

Urahara details the science of Hollowfication as a technology that pours a Hollow's soul into another and inevitably drives its victims to Soul Suicide, along with his vaccine research and why a Quincy needs a far stronger counterforce. Isshin's blunt acceptance, framed by his refusal to live with letting his savior die, sets the entire Kurosaki family in motion. Afterward Masaki leaves the Ishida family, Isshin opens the Kurosaki Clinic, and the two grow close, with Isshin likening Masaki to the sun that draws in and forgives everything.

The revelation reframes Masaki's death nine years earlier, tying it to the same Auswählen that killed Uryū's mother, Katagiri. Ichigo connects Yhwach's earlier remarks about his lineage and The Jail's inability to hold Quincy, regaining the will to keep fighting. Ryūken, elsewhere, recovers Sōken Ishida's abandoned journal beneath a bridge.

This is the twelfth Thousand-Year Blood War episode and the 378th overall, adapting parts of chapters 533 through 537. It aired in Japan on December 27, 2022, and in English on January 20, 2023, opening with Scar and ending on Saihate. The adaptation trimmed several beats, such as Isshin's fuller Blut explanation and Rangiku foisting paperwork on him, while expanding flashbacks to the Visored's Hollowfication and Ichigo's early days. A noted error shows Sajin Komamura without his helmet during the report, later corrected for home media.
