Summary

Whisked from Karakura Town by Mera, Ichigo returns to the Hōōden pit before Ōetsu Nimaiya. This time the assembled Asauchi kneel and blacken in rings as he walks among them, and the one he chooses turns white with a Hollow's face when it grips his hand. Nimaiya vows to reforge his Zanpakutō himself. Meanwhile in the Seireitei below, Hitsugaya humbly asks to relearn Zanjutsu after losing his Bankai, Kensei drives Hisagi toward Bankai with a Hollowfied Mashiro, and Akon spies on Mayuri secretly working to birth a new Ashisogi Jizō.

Elsewhere the Royal Guard's training spreads: Suì-Fēng drills alone on a spire, Marechiyo plays with his sister, and Komamura confronts the Wolfman Clan Elder for their secret technique, arguing the clan must help protect a changing world while the Elder insists nothing needs to change. At the forge beneath the Hōōden, Nimaiya's five bodyguards crash down and lend their strange abilities, hollowing the pit into a furnace, spawning water, and shaping a mallet from a tooth, as Nimaiya begins hammering the white Asauchi.

He reveals the hard truth that Ichigo's inner Hollow is his real Zanpakutō spirit, since Aizen built White by layering countless Shinigami souls just as Asauchi are made, letting it merge with Ichigo's Shinigami power. That means the Zangetsu he has always known is instead the source of his Quincy powers, wearing the face of Yhwach from a thousand years ago. In his inner world, a devastated Ichigo confronts the figure, who confirms he is neither enemy nor ally and admits only his name was ever a lie.

Zangetsu explains he suppressed the budding sword spirit to keep Ichigo far from the danger of a Shinigami's life, even believing he would one day have to kill him, but came to support Ichigo's chosen path with pride. He fades into a flaming Reishi sword, and Ichigo, resolving that both his Quincy power and his inner Hollow are Zangetsu to him, grabs the blade in the furnace and pours in his soul. The eruption evaporates the bay, leaving Ichigo dual-wielding two true blades. In Silbern, Uryū Ishida, now clad as a Sternritter, is welcomed by Yhwach as his son.
