Summary

A rainy night at Karakura Station turns deadly when three Bitto ambush a man in a parking lot, draining his soul until his body crumbles to ash. A trio of Keigun arrives too late and fails to capture the creatures, one of their number cut down in the attempt. The next day, Ichigo and his friends puzzle over the disappearances from their school rooftop; the modified souls cannot detect the Bount, the Onmitsukidō have shared nothing, and their best hope is a sensor Urahara is building at Rukia's request. Orihime also frets over Uryu, withdrawn since Yoshino Sōma's death.

Deep in a Reiatsu-suppressing cave, Kariya gathers his fellow Bount and unveils his research: the Bitto harvest concentrated human souls, and consuming that pure energy can multiply a Bount's strength more than tenfold. He drinks first and swells with power. Mabashi alone refuses, reminding Sawatari that this forbidden practice is what aged him prematurely, but Kariya beats him down and later forces the liquid down his throat. The other Bount drink and revel in their new might.

Key Events

In the Seireitei, Hitsugaya briefs Hisagi, Izuru, Rangiku, and Yumichika after learning the Onmitsukidō's Keigun were defeated, explaining they specialize in cutting down monsters even when the foes are not Hollows; Yumichika is stunned to hear he was picked only because Kenpachi said he had the most free time. At the Urahara Shop, Suì-Fēng relays Yoruichi's warning to watch the Bount's movements and coldly cautions Urahara to keep her safe. Elsewhere, Urahara confronts Uryu, who is set on reclaiming his Quincy powers to uncover the truth behind Yoshino and Kariya's plan. Out in the streets, Renji stumbles across Kon, then hears a boy crying and destroys the Bitto menacing him, only for hundreds more to descend at once, forcing Renji to shield the child and charge the swarm. Sensing his spiking Reiatsu, Ichigo and the others rush toward the fight.
