With Yushima catatonic, Urahara tracks Kagerōza's laboratory by his blood while Kon slips inside to reach the imprisoned Nozomi, learning the tragic origin that binds her and Kagerōza as two halves of one vengeful soul.
Unable to rouse Yushima, Kisuke Urahara turns to Kagerōza's blood instead, using a drug Mayuri once injected into the man to pinpoint the hidden lab. Outside, a Hollowfied Ichigo Kurosaki rampages as Eighth Division Shinigami defy the Reigai posing as Nanao Ise and charge him. The genuine Gotei 13 captains battle their own duplicates, and though Yoruichi Shihōin urges a retreat, they press on. En route to the laboratory, Urahara spots his own Reigai, strikes first, and tells Kon to sneak inside while he holds his copy off, promising to follow.
Kon reaches a chamber of machines and finds Nozomi Kujō floating unconscious in a tank. He wakes her but has no idea how to free her, and she repeatedly urges him to flee before the fusion with Kagerōza completes. She explains that Yushima, embittered by Soul Society's neglect, split his soul into two Modified Souls: Kagerōza inherited his vengeance, Nozomi his restraint, and she fears the merger will drown her in that hatred. Moved that Kon refuses to abandon her, she recalls a fragment of Kagerōza's memory and directs him to feed a sample of Ichigo's Reishi into the apparatus.

Naruto vs Luffy with the twist nobody asked for: Luffy tickled Hinata on date night, and she kind of liked it. We break down the whole fight and commit to a winner....
As Kon works the machine, the Reigai of Nemu Kurotsuchi ambushes him and knocks his pill from his body, then resets the device so the fusion resumes and Nozomi loses consciousness. The Hollowfied Ichigo cuts through the Eighth Division and Nanao's Reigai, then turns to face the newly restored Ōko Yushima. This anime-original episode is the 338th of the series. A Shinigami Illustrated Picture Book segment has Nanao insisting to a disbelieving subordinate that the ice and Bankai wrecking the Seireitei are all the work of the Hollow.
