The Darkness Which Moves! Kibune's True Colors

While search teams hunt for Ichigo, Rukia, and Shū Kannogi, Captain Shūsuke Amagai reveals to his allies that he is aiding Ichigo in order to expose Makoto Kibune's ties to the Kasumiōji Clan. A Hell Butterfly carries his message to Izuru Kira, but two Seventh Division Shinigami spot the gathering and report it to Captain Komamura as apparent betrayal.

At the First Division, Yamamoto receives word of Amagai's supposed treason and calls a captains meeting, ordering all three fugitives apprehended. Ukitake voices doubt, arguing there is too much uncertainty around Ichigo's motives, but Yamamoto overrules him. As the order spreads, distrust boils over into open brawls between divisions across the Seireitei.

Renji Abarai clashes with Tetsuzaemon Iba, insisting Ichigo and Rukia would never needlessly attack the Kasumiōji Manor, and eventually persuades Iba to stand aside. Ikkaku Madarame confronts Shūhei Hisagi with the same secret aim of helping Ichigo. Meanwhile, Izuru discovers the corpses of the Shinigami who vanished alongside Kibune, deduces his hiding place, and stumbles onto the escaped Rurichiyo Kasumiōji. After fighting off Kasumiōji assassins wielding Bakkōtō, Izuru is challenged by a far stronger foe: Makoto Kibune himself.

This anime-only entry belongs to the New Captain Shūsuke Amagai arc and adapts no manga chapters. The closing Illustrated Picture Book segment follows Renji and Shūhei mooching a free meal of leftovers at Ōmaeda's home. The episode showcases Shikai releases including Hōzukimaru, Zabimaru, and Kibune's Reppū.
