Episode 334 of the Bleach anime brings the clash with Kagerōza Inaba to a desperate head, as Nozomi Kujō confronts the truth of her shared origin with her captor and Ichigo spends the last of his failing power in a final effort to protect her.
Nozomi Kujō throws herself in front of Yamamoto to block Inaba's redirected blast, and though her Arazome Shigure shatters under the strain, Yamamoto splits the attack with Ryūjin Jakka before an immense explosion swallows the battlefield. When Nozomi asks why he saved a Mod-Soul like her, the wounded Captain-Commander tells her not to think so highly of herself, insisting she is still a young girl regardless of her nature, before collapsing.
Inaba presses his advance and reveals that he and Nozomi were both born from the Reishi of a single Shinigami, meaning that if she is captured they will merge and she will become their enemy. As Nozomi recalls the bonds she formed with Kon and the others, Inaba insists no one understands her better than he does, leaving her frozen in shame.
The weakened heroes attack together but are swiftly defeated, and Nozomi rescues Kon before fleeing. To keep him from sacrificing himself alongside her, she pins Kon to a rock with Bakudō #30. Shitotsu Sansen and heads back alone. Ichigo, running on his very last reserves, unleashes a Getsuga Tenshō that appears to obliterate Inaba, only for the real Inaba to reveal the destroyed figure was a copy.
Inaba strikes down Ichigo, knocks Nozomi unconscious, and carries her through a time-space portal as Kon arrives too late to stop it. In the aftermath, Ichigo's shihakushō turns white, marking the complete loss of his Shinigami powers.
