The Fallen Shinigami's Pride

Wounded by Ichigo, Amagai keeps pouring strength into his Bakkoto and swears the fight ends only with his revenge. He batters Ichigo through walls, yet Ichigo endures and strikes back, refusing to yield. Turning his rage on Yamamoto, Amagai accuses the Captain-Commander of ruling through hypocrisy, only to be reminded of his own crimes and asked whether he ever weighed the suffering he caused. The two exchange escalating flame and fang attacks until a shared explosion leaves them both spent.

Believing himself victorious, Amagai drives his blade through Yamamoto, but the old man survives and halts Ukitake and Kyoraku from retaliating. Yoruichi then lays out the real history: Gyokaku Kumoi secretly abused the Kasumioji clan's forbidden techniques to forge Bakkoto, and Amagai's father, Shin'etsu Kisaragi, was captured while trying to recover the secret and forced to wield one. Fully controlled by the weapon, he attacked Yamamoto, who had no choice but to cut him down. The affair was buried to protect the clan's secret and appease Central 46.

Realizing his hatred blinded him, Amagai withdraws his sword and kneels, asking if he was a fool. Yamamoto tells him he need not feel shame, but Amagai instead plants his blade in the ground and lets flames consume him, apologizing to his lieutenant, Izuru Kira, as he dies. At the Kasumioji mansion, Rurichiyo, Kenryu, and Enryu thank Ichigo and Rukia before the pair depart.

The clash between Ichigo and Amagai concludes. Amagai stabs Yamamoto but finds him alive, and Yoruichi reveals that a Bakkoto, not the Captain-Commander, truly killed Shin'etsu Kisaragi. Accepting the truth, Amagai takes his own life by self-immolation. Rurichiyo is safely restored to her retainers, and the visitors from the living world head home.

This anime-only entry carries no source chapters and finishes the New Captain Shusuke Amagai arc. Its Illustrated Picture Book segment teases the return of the main storyline, with Nelliel greeting Ichigo through a Senkaimon in Hueco Mundo and Orihime announcing that the Hueco Mundo arc resumes the following week.
