Urahara's Decision, Orihime's Thoughts

The episode opens on comic beats in Karakura Town, where Yumichika and a visiting Rangiku both howl at Ikkaku being stuffed into a gaudy heart-and-bear shirt handed to him by the complex's landlady. After Keigo is knocked flat by Rangiku's kick, the scene shifts to the Urahara Shop, where Yoruichi has delivered Orihime to the underground Study Chamber. There Yasutora Sado spars against Renji Abarai's Bankai, and Urahara finally states his purpose: with Aizen hunting the means to forge an Ōken, a bloodier battle looms this winter, yet Orihime will not be fighting in it.

Urahara reasons that Tsubaki, her lone attacking flower, was smashed by Yammy and cannot be repaired, that the Santen Kesshun barrier offers too little on the battlefield, and that the Fourth Division will cover the wounded. Sado protests that her healing outweighs raw combat, but Renji sides with Urahara, and a shaken Orihime thanks them and flees. She breaks down in front of Rukia, who insists spirit matters more than power and that none of Ichigo's group was ever a burden. Before they can plan, Hiyori Sarugaki drops in and hauls Orihime off to the Visored.

Beneath their warehouse, Hachigen Ushōda examines Orihime's hairpins, recognizes them as kin to his own barrier gifts, and cheerfully restores the broken one, popping Tsubaki back into existence to an overjoyed Orihime. He still warns that her powers, so much like his, are ill suited to fighting Arrancar, urging her instead to discover a way to be useful on her own terms. Elsewhere in Las Noches, Ulquiorra finds Yammy having his severed arm reattached by Roka Paramia, whom Yammy casually kills with a test punch, while Aizen reviews Ulquiorra's memory of Orihime's shielding and healing and smiles at how interesting her ability is.

Urahara formally bars Orihime from the winter battle, citing Tsubaki's destruction and the limits of her defenses. Rukia consoles her, arguing that willpower, not strength, decides who belongs on a battlefield. Hiyori carries Orihime to Hachigen, who repairs her hairpin and revives Tsubaki while advising her to find her own path to fight. In Hueco Mundo, Yammy kills the healer Roka Paramia after his arm is reattached, and Aizen studies footage of Orihime's powers with clear interest.

Part of the Arrancar storyline, this entry draws on chapters 227 and 228 plus the opening pages of chapter 229. Its closing Arrancar Encyclopedia segment has Gin run through Gonzui, Pesquisa, Sonído, and Cero, only for Yammy to grumble that the technique names are too hard to remember, earning a scolding. The adaptation adds several beats, including Yoruichi teasing Urahara and a flashback of Tōsen destroying Grimmjow's arm.
