This large, emblem-stamped device sits among the treasures kept by the Shihōin Clan, one of Soul Society's four great noble houses and the appointed guardians of a store of sacred armaments. Bearing the family crest and trailing a long cord, the shield is normally locked behind a seal so stubborn that even a captain has trouble undoing it.
Function
The shield exists to bring down the Sōkyoku. Its cord is wound around the giant halberd, and two Zanpakutō are driven into a pair of vertical slots that run down from the top of the shield. With the blades in place, their Reiryoku floods through the cord and tears the Sōkyoku apart. Jūshirō Ukitake and Shunsui Kyōraku deployed it for exactly this purpose during Rukia Kuchiki's attempted execution, neutralizing the weapon before it could fall.
