The easygoing, sake-loving captain who rises to lead the Gotei 13, Shunsui Kyōraku hides a formidable swordsman beneath a flowered pink kimono and a straw hat. One of Soul Society's oldest and mightiest Shinigami, he would rather talk his way clear of a fight than wage one, yet wields the dual-bladed Katen Kyōkotsu without mercy when peace fails.
Height and lean stature mark Shunsui, whose fair skin, pronounced cheekbones, and grey eyes sit beneath a mane of wavy brown hair gathered into a long tail, with a fringe sweeping across the left of his face. Thin whiskers trace his jaw and lip, and body hair covers much of his chest and limbs.
His signature look pairs a broad straw hat with a rose-patterned woman's kimono draped over his black uniform. The robe and sash are inexpensive, but his pinwheel hairpins are anything but, and he goes without socks under his sandals. After the war against the Wandenreich, he keeps a patch over a ruined right eye, the upper edge of that ear shorn away and a scar running down his temple. In childhood his hair fell shorter and unkempt above a flowered kimono.
Relaxed and theatrical by nature, Shunsui is rarely without a smile, filling his idle hours with naps and sake in the local bars. He speaks more casually than most captains and is famous for chasing women, above all his niece and lieutenant Nanao Ise, whom he dotes on affectionately. He even penned a romance serial for the Seireitei newspaper, though almost no one reads it, a slight that never seems to trouble him.
Beneath the flippant surface lies a man who despises combat and will nearly always try to reason his way clear of a fight, all while treating opponents with genuine courtesy. His code keeps him from raising a blade against children or slaying the defenseless, and for all his age and power he stays humble, freely admitting that younger Shinigami may one day surpass him. Once he inherits command of the Gotei 13, he proves willing to gamble on controversial calls, from naming two lieutenants at once to freeing Aizen for a single battle, even knowing censure will follow. Yet he privately carries a heavy guilt over the losses that have struck those near him, among them losing his brother and watching Nanao's mother be put to death.

Five Bleach female characters, ranked and settled. Yoruichi sits at number five, the spot nobody expects, and our number one is an Arrancar with a soft heart....

Naruto vs Luffy with the twist nobody asked for: Luffy tickled Hinata on date night, and she kind of liked it. We break down the whole fight and commit to a winner....
Born the younger son of the aristocratic Kyōraku line, Shunsui grew closer to his household after his elder brother Shunzan wed Isuzu, head of the Ise family. When Shunzan died, his widow entrusted Shunsui with the family's blade and a set of hairpins, confiding that he was the only outsider she trusted to bear that burden. Though he had little patience for study and far preferred courting women, Yamamoto judged the youth unusually perceptive and packed him off to the Shinigami academy against his wishes.
There he met Jūshirō Ukitake, who became his lifelong friend, and the pair ranked among the first captains ever trained through the academy rather than raised on the battlefield, both personally schooled by Yamamoto himself. He stood for over a century as one of the eldest officers in the Gotei 13, serving beside lieutenants such as Lisa Yadōmaru and witnessing pivotal events like Urahara's rise to captain. Generations later his strength is confirmed when he subdues the released Primera Espada Coyote Starrk using only his Shikai, and in the war's aftermath he ascends to the post of Captain-Commander, leading the entire Gotei 13.
In the field he ranks among the finest swordsmen in Soul Society, fighting ambidextrously with the paired long and short blades of Katen Kyōkotsu. Released, the sword warps the surrounding area into deadly versions of children's games whose rules bind everyone within reach, its wielder included, and his command of flash-step and binding arts rounds out an arsenal few can match.
Shunsui Kyoraku has a well-known reputation for chasing women, particularly doting on his niece and lieutenant Nanao Ise, though the pursuit is mostly playful rather than serious.
Bleach never names Shunsui Kyoraku as the single strongest Shinigami, but he ranks among Soul Society's oldest and mightiest, having subdued the released Primera Espada Coyote Starrk using only his Shikai.
Shunsui Kyoraku lost the use of his right eye during the war against the Wandenreich, left with the eye ruined, part of his ear shorn away, and a scar running down his temple.
Shunsui Kyoraku wields Katen Kyokotsu, a pair of long and short blades whose Bankai, Karamatsu Shinju, warps the surrounding area into deadly versions of children's games that bind everyone within reach.
Shunsui Kyoraku serves as Captain-Commander of the Gotei 13, having previously led the 8th Division before rising to command all of Soul Society's forces.
