Wielding the immense power the Sanrei Glove has unlocked, Uryū Ishida strips Mayuri Kurotsuchi of an arm and an eye, driving the captain to answer with a horror of his own: the Bankai Konjiki Ashisogi Jizō.
Uryū Ishida recalls his grandfather's warning about the Sanrei Glove, which scatters spirit particles at such intensity that most Quincy cannot even shape a bow with it, and which, if endured for seven days and nights, lifts a wielder to the summit of their power before stripping it away forever. Now clad in fresh armor with a jet of spirit fire at his shoulder and a reforged, mechanical bow, Uryū begins tearing nearby structures apart, absorbing the spirit particles that compose them and bending the energy to his will. A sweating Mayuri Kurotsuchi admits the youth has left human limits behind.
Forming a solid arrow in his palm, Uryū fires too fast to fully dodge, and a second shot from above costs Mayuri his left arm and the sight in one eye. Uryū demands surrender or promises a shot three times stronger. Enraged, Mayuri instead activates his Bankai, Konjiki Ashisogi Jizō, a colossal caterpillar-like beast crowned with a baby's head and a floating halo. He declares it will spray a lethal poison brewed from his own blood across a vast radius, harmless only to him, and sends it charging. Uryū draws back another arrow and fires, and the collision detonates in a vast blast of energy.
The full mechanics of the Sanrei Glove and Quincy: Letzt Stil are explained, including Uryū's ability to absorb spirit particles from the buildings around him. Uryū severs Mayuri's arm and blinds one eye. Mayuri responds by releasing his Bankai, Konjiki Ashisogi Jizō, and its blood-borne poison, setting up a decisive clash.
