Still smiling under guard, Aizen tells Yoruichi that the moment has arrived, and a Negacion beam drops from the sky to enclose him just as she yanks Sui-Feng clear. Above the hill a vast Kumon splits open to reveal a swarm of Menos Grande, with something enormous and single-eyed lurking behind them. Two further beams claim Tosen and Gin, the latter slipping loose of Rangiku's hold with a wistful apology before he begins to rise.

As the ground beneath Aizen lifts skyward, Iba readies an attack, only for Yamamoto to halt him and explain that Negacion light seals whoever it holds inside another world entirely, putting Aizen beyond reach from the moment it came down. The battered Komamura drags himself upright to ask where his friend's devotion to justice has gone, and Tosen answers that the road of least bloodshed he now walks is itself justice. Ukitake presses Aizen on why he threw in with the Menos, and Aizen replies that he seeks a higher summit, insisting that no being, not the Shinigami and not the gods, has ever truly sat above the heavens. Combing back his hair and grinding his glasses underfoot, he vows to fill that vacant throne himself. With a parting word for Ichigo, whom he calls a curious human boy, Aizen is drawn up into the Kumon as it seals behind him.

The tenth and final chapter of the end of hypnosis arc closes out the twentieth volume and the larger Soul Society conflict, sending Aizen, Gin and Tosen into Hueco Mundo and revealing the immense Hollow lurking behind the Menos. The chapter was adapted into the sixty-second anime episode.
