Blockin' Beast

The Ginto Uryu Ishida poured onto his Seele Schneider ignites Sprenger, a huge five-pointed detonation that consumes Szayelaporro Granz. As the frantic Fraccion rush past him toward the smoke, Pesche Guatiche asks what that was, and Uryu breaks the technique down: the blades stake out a zone while storing Reishi in their pommels to resist a diffusing enemy, a Quincy marker is laid on the ground, and a concentrated drop of Reishi from a Ginto sparks the blast within. He adds that its long setup makes it useless in a solo duel without reliable support, which Renji Abarai waves off as flattery even as Uryu insists he means it.

To their alarm, a charred and bleeding Szayelaporro rises from the clearing smoke. He reminds Uryu that having analyzed his spiritual pressure lets him blunt any technique, even an unfamiliar one, then grabs Lumina and swallows most of its body, his wounds sealing over as he chews. Spitting out an arm, he tells the horrified Verona to stop wailing and promises a replacement later, explaining that his special Fraccion exist so he can consume them to recover. When Uryu calls him a monster, the Espada counters that genius is the fitter word.

Szayelaporro then turns to leave, and to Uryu's disbelief announces he is going to change out of his ruined outfit, suggesting the pair use the pause to devise a plan since he will be dreaming up an awful way to kill them. Meanwhile, a battered Nel Tu drags herself across the rubble to the motionless Ichigo Kurosaki, weeping and begging him not to die, until Grimmjow Jaegerjaquez appears before her and tells her to move.

Uryu explains the mechanics of Sprenger and warns that it needs backup to work. Szayelaporro heals himself by eating Lumina, revealing the grisly purpose of his Fraccion, then walks away to change clothes and invites his opponents to plan. Grimmjow finds the unconscious Ichigo and blocks Nel from reaching him.

This is the seventh chapter of the thirty-first volume, DON'T KILL MY VOLUPTURE. It ran in Weekly Shonen Jump under the misspelled heading Blookin' Beast before the corrected form was used in collected editions. The material was adapted into Episode 164 of the anime, Ishida's Strategy, the 20-second Offense and Defense.
