Kira and Hisagi, the latter carrying Yumichika, hurry toward the ruined pillar and catch sight of Poww's enormous form. Judging the giant's scale, Iba resolves to seize Ikkaku and flee, reasoning they can do nothing against a foe strong enough to send Komamura hurtling. When Poww swings a fist at them, Ikkaku realizes Iba cannot dodge while dragging him along. Komamura, however, blocks the strike and flings Poww skyward, ordering Iba not to withdraw but to hold his ground directly behind him.

Righting himself, Poww claims the blow did no harm yet admits the Shinigami caught him off guard, and he dismisses the captain as a pathetic insect. He begins charging a Cero, but the sight of Komamura calling forth his Bankai halts him; demanding to know who the captain is, he throws a punch instead. Komamura answers by naming himself and, agreeing that he is indeed a pathetic insect, drives his Bankai down to grind Poww into the earth.

Iba attempts to drag the injured Ikkaku away from the giant Poww. Komamura blocks Poww's blow and orders Iba to stand fast. Poww aborts a charging Cero at the sight of Komamura's Bankai. Komamura names himself and crushes Poww into the ground with his Bankai.

Komamura's Bankai, Kokujō Tengen Myō'ō, dispatches Poww here. Trivia holds that the chapter's cover art was first published in the artbook All Colour But The Black two years earlier, when Kubo redrew Soul Society arc covers to finally feature Komamura among the Gotei 13 captains. Its events were adapted in episode 220 of the anime, Ikkaku Falls! The Shinigami's Crisis.
