Aizen greets Urahara and dismisses his monstrous new shape as the ugly midpoint of evolution, while Urahara counters that no one called him ugly and observes he has merged with the Hogyoku. Aizen rejects the word fusion, insisting on subdue, and claims the orb Urahara could never master has found a rightful owner. Before Urahara can answer fully, Aizen uses Shunpo and runs him through the chest, only for the body to burst like a balloon as the real Urahara appears behind him and locks him with Bakudo 61, Rikujokoro.

Recognizing the portable Gigai ploy from Yammy's report, Aizen admits carelessness, then asks what the shopkeeper intends. Urahara chains two further binds, Sajo Sabaku and Kuyo Shibari, and follows with an incantation. Aizen doubts he will be allowed to complete it, but Urahara unleashes Hado 91, Senju Koten Taiho, an attack whose force even startles Ichigo.

When the smoke lifts, Aizen stands unharmed and cuts Urahara's right shoulder with a bare hand, boasting that the Hogyoku makes him invincible and that he need not dodge a level ninety spell. Urahara corrects him: he was never speaking about dodging. Spiritual cuffs clamp Aizen's wrists, a seal that traps the Reiatsu pouring from his own palms, and he vanishes into a pillar of light as his own strength is turned back on him.

Urahara presents his elaborate Kido offensive as his main plan, luring Aizen into overconfidence. His real gambit is a seal on Aizen's wrists that redirects the Hogyoku-fueled Reiatsu back at its owner, engulfing him in a column of light.

Chapter 402 sits within the Deicide sequence of the Fake Karakura Town conflict and is printed in the forty-sixth volume, BACK FROM BLIND. It marks Urahara's full entry into the duel and was adapted into anime Episode 300, Urahara Appears! Stop Aizen!
