Deicide 8 end of the Chrysalis Age

Isshin's Getsuga Tensho carves a crater and levels several buildings, but Aizen steps out of the smoke with a long slash across his face, remarking that the blow landed and that he understood it, then declares it time for the others to understand his power. Distracted by the distant blast, Ichigo loses focus, and Gin abandons his last shred of respect, dropping from his perch to say the boy is no longer a warrior, nor a Shinigami, Hollow, or even a person, and could never stand against Aizen.

Gin again advises Ichigo to run, saying Aizen would be disappointed to see him, and Ichigo bows his head in despair as Gin draws Shinso, warning that he will cut him down if he stays. An explosion behind Ichigo reveals Aizen along with the beaten bodies of Yoruichi, Urahara, and his own father. Aizen asks Gin what he was doing, and Gin answers that he was merely testing Ichigo's strength.

Aizen orders Gin to open a Senkaimon to Soul Society, where the genuine Karakura Town waits, reasoning it will be simpler to forge the Oken and storm the Royal Palace from there. As Ichigo shouts for him to stop, Aizen's face begins peeling away, and Gin observes that the incubation must be finished. Aizen fully emerges with his old features restored beneath the chrysalis, now framed by lengthened hair and darkened sclera akin to a Hollow's, and vows to witness Soul Society's ruin himself. Telling Ichigo he is being left behind and that devouring him can wait, Aizen disappears with Gin through the gate. Isshin then rises, drapes an arm over his son for support, and orders him to open a gate so they can defend Karakura Town.

Aizen withstands Isshin's Getsuga Tensho and sheds his chrysalis, exposing a restored yet Hollow-like face with darkened sclera. He departs for the real Karakura Town through a Senkaimon, leaving Ichigo behind, and Isshin urges his son to follow and defend the town.

Chapter 406, whose full title marks the end of the chrysalis age, appears in the forty-seventh volume of the same name within the Deicide arc. It depicts a major stage of Aizen's transformation and was adapted into anime Episode 301, Ichigo Loses His Fighting Spirit!? Gin's Expectation!
