Summary
The barbed dome of Tatarforas is still coming apart when Byakuya Kuchiki drops down between his stunned sister and the Sternritter she has been battling. Aes Noedt greets the captain warmly, having lured him out by tormenting Rukia, and taunts him over the organs he once tore from Byakuya's gut. Rukia grasps that the whole ambush was staged to draw her brother into range.
When Aes flings the eye-covered shards of his dome at Byakuya, the captain shreds them with dense clouds of blade petals that harden into impaling thorns. Aes assumes the strike comes from a stolen Senbonzakura Kageyoshi, only for Byakuya to lift a hilt with no blade and correct him: this is merely his Shikai. Being robbed of the Bankai, Byakuya explains, forced him to study the bond with his sword afresh, the way one reads a pointillist canvas up close, and he recovered its true nature because of it.
Denying Byakuya any death, Aes shoves his own organs outward and swells into a hulking figure, promising an eternity of torment. Byakuya instead turns to Rukia, praising the strength he sensed while still nearing the Seireitei, and reminds her that fear grows from doubt within the heart. He then walks away, declaring he will not be the one to finish the monster. With no fear left in her and only Aes trembling, Rukia raises Sode no Shirayuki and looses her newly won Bankai, Hakka no Togame, sealing the Quincy inside a towering column of freezing white air.
