Realizing Aizen engineered the disaster, Hirako admits he distrusted his lieutenant from the start and took him on only to keep watch over him. Aizen thanks him, revealing that this very wariness let him operate unseen: for a month a stand-in had held his place, unnoticed because Hirako kept his distance and shared little. He credits his blade, Kyōka Suigetsu, with the power to warp whatever anyone perceives, and notes he accepted the promotion precisely because Hirako's suspicion suited his aims. Goaded into rage, Hirako lunges, only for fluid to erupt from his mouth and eye and form a Hollow mask, confirming Aizen's theory that agitation hastens Hollowfication. When Hiyori cries out, Tōsen cuts her down at Aizen's command. As Aizen moves to finish Hirako, Kisuke Urahara, cloaked to hide his spiritual pressure, strikes and severs Aizen's lieutenant insignia, prompting Aizen to remark on his interesting guests.

Hirako confirms Aizen is behind the Hollowfication. Aizen explains the Kyōka Suigetsu-enabled substitution that hid his crimes. Hirako begins to transform, proving excitement speeds the process. Tōsen strikes down Hiyori on Aizen's order. Urahara ambushes Aizen and cuts off his badge.

This chapter opens the Turn Back the Pendulum flashback printed at the front of Volume 37 (BEAUTY IS SO SOLITARY) and lays bare Aizen's schemes 110 years before the main story. Episode 211 adapts it. Central players include Aizen, Hirako, Gin, Tōsen, Hiyori, and Urahara.
