Goodbye

Gazing at the goal he failed to convert, Hiori decides he was never meant for the sport, yet he smiles while imagining announcing to his parents that he is done with it. He pictures himself becoming an empty husk who lives on without soccer and thanks Blue Lock for letting him finally part with the game. Isagi, though, roars at him to try once more.

Aiku has the ball as Ubers set their counter, and Raichi calls to snuff it out. Hiori questions why Isagi still expects anything from him when he feels he betrayed him by going for his own shot. Isagi tells him to stop looking, stop thinking, and simply burst through, leaping past their own imagination and acting on reflex. Hiori comes to understand that Isagi's expectations weigh nothing on him because they aim at a future rather than at him as a person. He realizes Isagi is searching for a kindred soul to build that future with, and decides this is precisely why people are drawn to him.

As Ubers push forward, Isagi tries to dispossess Lorenzo, who slips it to Baro. Yukimiya and Raichi hem Baro in, but he still fires; Kunigami charges in, branding him a villainous red gorilla, and blocks the shot. The deflection loops upward, Gagamaru claims it and hurls it out for Hiori to trap. Reflecting that he had expected to walk away, head home, and play video games, Hiori now wants to ride along with Isagi's crazy dream, and the two launch a counterattack as Hiori thinks this may be the last push of his footballing life.

Baro takes a shot that Kunigami blocks. Hiori commits to staying in the sport and joining Isagi's dream, and the two set off on a counterattack together.

Goodbye is the sixth chapter of Volume 27 and the two hundred thirty-sixth overall, within the Neo Egoist League Arc. The Bastard München against Ubers match stays tied at two each after Sendo denied Hiori's earlier shot. Muneyuki Kaneshiro is the writer and Yusuke Nomura the artist.
