Personality

To outward appearances she radiates warmth and concern, the very picture of someone devoted to every child in her keeping. That mask conceals a jealous and embittered nature. At heart she is a calculating sociopath, willing to win a grieving girl's trust for the sole purpose of stripping away the one thing keeping her happy.

History

She is employed at the orphanage where Asa Mitaka and other children land once Devils kill their parents. To draw closer to Asa, she claimed to have lost her own mother to the Typhoon Devil, the very Devil behind Asa's grief, though whether this was sincere or a ploy is never confirmed. Noticing that the girl leaned on her cat Crambon rather than the other orphans, the caretaker spun a tale about a friend who kept many cats and could give the animal a happier home. Asa handed him over believing he would be better off, only for the caretaker, resentful that Asa still retained a shred of family, to drown Crambon in a nearby river.

During the Falling Devil arc, that Devil floods people with their darkest feelings and forces them to relive old wounds. Anyone weighed down by a heavy heart loses their footing against gravity and drifts upward toward a doorway into Hell, where they are offered to its residents. Already unsteady, Asa sinks into a memory of her orphanage years and the loss of Crambon. She comes to in the present gripping a guardrail as she floats upward, with Yoru screaming at her to master her fear.
