Appearance

From the waist down the devil looks like a tree rooted in the floor, its trunk and branches climbing toward a human-shaped torso whose arms are thrown wide beneath a horned skull. Vine-like ribbons trail off its limbs and chest. Three sets of eyes are stacked one above another on its face, the broad mouth almost always hanging open. A gaping cavity sits at the middle of its chest, and a single oversized eye stares out from within it.

Personality

Loud and playful, it constantly crows that the future reigns supreme. Its bargains usually carry a brutal cost, yet for Aki it offers a cheap one, asking only to lodge inside his eye so it can watch his grim fate play out while taunting him. It demands he yell that the future rules before each summon, a request Aki flatly refuses. Unlike most devils it will not simply wait to be called; it forces a vision of his own death onto Aki, who then scrambles to spare Power and Denji and winds up slain by Denji.

History

Public Safety seized the devil alive and shut it in a cell. From there it formed pacts with two of their hunters. One of the pair surrendered half of their remaining years, while the second handed over both eyes plus the senses of taste and smell. After the Fox Devil cut ties with Aki, Kurose and Tendo bring him before the captive devil hoping to arm him anew. It has Aki push his head into the hollow in its chest to read his days ahead, laughs at what it sees, and proposes a bargain rate: in exchange for living in his right eye, it grants him a four-to-five-second window into what comes next, all because it craves a close view of the terrible end it promises. That foresight does not save him; as Aki learns against the Ghost Devil, seeing a blow coming is not the same as dodging it. Captured a second time, the devil predicts that twenty-three of thirty inmates would die during July 1999, a sign that Nostradamus's prophecies were coming true and humanity neared its end.
