Appearance

Sideburns frame the face of this towering, heavily built young man, whose hair and eyes are both dark. Standing just under two meters, he favors a long leather coat thrown over a buttoned uniform cut in a military style. A belt ringed with pouches sits at his hips, and a scabbard rides alongside it to carry one of his swords. The stretch when Makima controlled him saw him swap that look for the standard suit and tie of a Public Safety hunter.

His transformed state is far more monstrous. Full-length katana blades push out from both arms, while his head opens into a fanged, lipless maw set in raw, skinless flesh with a jutting jaw. A gakuran cap bearing an ornament crowns him, and a blade runs clean through his skull, its grip protruding behind.

Personality

Vengeance consumes him almost entirely. Cruel, bullheaded, and far from sharp, Katana Man fixates on slaying Denji and wringing an apology out of him for the grandfather's death, and he will gladly carve through bystanders or allies to reach that goal. He flatly rejects Denji's claim that the old man was a reanimated corpse, branding it a lie. His devotion to his grandfather runs deep, since he remembers him as a man of principle rather than the Yakuza boss he was, and he genuinely believes organized crime quietly safeguards Japan, a conviction that exposes how warped his idea of justice is.

Although the Katana Devil replaced his heart, he insists a human conscience survives in him, claiming restless nights follow any killing he commits, a guilt Denji never feels. Religion earns his contempt as well. When he resurfaces in the second half of the story, his loathing of Denji has only hardened, spilling over onto the very symbol of Chainsaw Man, and he once slashed a Devil simply for praising that hero's sense of justice. The obsession overrides even his own commanders, leading him to abandon his post and his dream of rebuilding the family syndicate to chase his enemy. He prizes a rigid notion of masculinity, sneers at Denji for weeping the way he imagines a woman would, and even suggests a brothel trip to restore the boy's nerve. For all his violence, the sight of Nayuta's severed head visibly sickens him.

Abilities

To shift into his Hybrid shape, Katana Man pulls off his left hand, and a katana rises from the open stump, while sliding that blade back out reverses the change and leaves him briefly unable to keep fighting. Transformed, his strength swells enough to shear through walls, the Fox Devil's hide, and the reinforced gear of Public Safety hunters, though a single stroke cannot fully bite through that armor. He shrugs off being hurled through buildings and long falls, and he even endured the Fox Devil swallowing him whole. His quickness climbs to match Aki and Denji, letting him rake walls in an instant.

His signature move is the Sword-Draw Dash, a quick-draw rooted in iaijutsu. Crouching low as if to unsheathe, he bolts past a target faster than the eye registers, the wound surfacing only after he has gone by, as though he had teleported. He can chain the technique repeatedly, yet because he never truly vanishes, a foe can still parry or strike back and injure him. Feeding on blood mends his wounds, and his Hybrid nature makes him nearly impossible to put down for good, since he can be torn in two and still regenerate, or be restored entirely whenever someone detaches his left hand. He handles a pistol and his arm-blades with equal skill. His one notable limit is a cooldown, because once he reverts, a stretch of time must pass before he can transform again.
